The Justice Intervention Initiative (Jii) 365Life Initiative is based on proven grassroots community strategies that lead to the decrease of youth conflict and violent "behaviors" in black and communities of color. The recognition of black youth interaction factors leading to verbal conflict escalating into physical confrontations consistently with hands (slapping or punching), feet (kicking), or with weapons (knives and guns) can help prevent youth violence and create a more compassionate youth-oriented environment. The 365Life Initiative will help to facilitate this environment in Greenville, South Carolina.
Since 2006, the work conducted relating to youth mentoring by Beyond Differences and now the work being done by Justice Intervention has given us the rare opportunity to become the focal point in creating and implementing the 365Life Initiative. The hard work of years of testing local intervention and prevention strategies has made us more skillful in filtering best practices in youth, behavior, conflict, and violence.
With our programs and initiatives such as; OurRadio, GYCCLC, WeTeach, STRYVE, and our annual youth summit, we have developed a relationship with the youth of Greenville County. Our due diligence to bring about change to youth in our community has inspired us further, creating the 365Life Initiative. A program capable of being the most successful in the history of Greenville County. With proper funding, we are certain that we can enrich and educate the youth of our community to create a safe environment for development and engagement.
365Life Initiative is a comprehensive youth-oriented conflict intervention model based on intelligent-led, compassionate research that will impact a segment of society that has been systematically burdened with factors that their peers don't have to encounter daily.
365Life Initiative's involvement with this segment of our community will create an impact, individually, collectively, and societal, given this segment the opportunity to become accomplished students, academically, community conscious, and environmental acute in their role as a youth.
The 365Life Initiative will give participants to engage in better life choices that will lead them to become critical thinkers while creating their pathways free from conflict and violence.
The 365Life Initiative will guide them to avenues of better choices as they make their way to intersections of youth and prosperity that encircle all aspects of sustainable living.
In America, 22 youth are killed every day because of gun violence. A recent sixteen-year-old victim of gun violence made it abundantly clear about the escalation of gun violence, "After COVID, things have become more ruthless." In today's local youth culture, things have become ruthless and violent. Kids engage in acts of violence without realizing the severity of their actions, especially assaults with a deadly weapon. Their mental capacity to digest standard information at this stage of their lives is limited to their environmental surroundings. The enormity of gun violence produced bewildered kids acting rationally from their perspective. For example, recently, we heard how ill-equipped our youth are to deal with violent encounters. Out of youth ignorance, a youth gunshot victim was transported to an urgent care facility when the hospital was much closer. Why did these kids go to an urgent care facility? Because their social position is interacting with their environmental setting produced in their mind a reasonable solution to handling a gunshot victim. Their socialization process is adapting to what is considered normal behavior. They don't understand that health disparities, unequal access to medical care, and black families treat urgent care facilities as their primary health providers. This volume of integration that must be corrected gives kids an opportunity to understand all elements that are not favorable in creating sound and safe solutions.
